Lyrics

Covidity

I’m a neo-troglodyte,
sheltering in place.
I only venture from my cave
with a mask upon my face.
My only social contact
is looking at a screen.
Will I spend eternity
alone in quarantine?

It’s painfully awkward
to practice social distance.
I just can’t get used to
this reclusive existence.
Days of seamless sameness
used to seem so unforeseen.
Will I spend eternity
alone in quarantine?

The arrows and the slings
of fortune are outrageous.
Every other person
is potentially contagious.
If I should see another soul,
I worry and I wonder.
I’d rather be 6 feet apart
than lying 6 feet under.

I’m living in a state of
purgatorial covidity.
Will there ever be an end
to my self-imposed captivity?
I’m trying not to touch my face
and maintain hand hygiene.
Will I spend eternity
alone in quarantine?

My home is sealed hermetically.
My lifestyle is hermitic.
I need antidepressants
and an anxiolytic.
The only thing I think about
is COVID-19.
Will I spend eternity
alone in quarantine?

Will I spend eternity?
Will I spend eternity?
Will I spend eternity
alone in quarantine?

Will I spend eternity?
Will I spend eternity?
Will I spend eternity
alone in quarantine?
